Drinking water doesn't releive constipation

Did you have an odd day where you didn't pass free motions?? It's ok. This happens to all. Could be due to some improper ahara (food) or vihara (activity). A glass or two of warm water could help you as it kindles the activity (peristalsis) in the intestines.
"Drink more water to relieve constipation" might not be right always.
Water after drying up makes the system more drier. Water can hydrate but doesn't grease. Habitual constipation is due to Vata increase and the system becomes rooksha (dry/smoothlessness). This cannot be handled by water.
Instead consume one tablespoon of pure cow's ghee (melted) followed by half a glass of hot milk/water at bedtime. Also make some minor lifestyle alterations. This in due course of time, will make the system snigdha (oily). This relieves constipation and also gives the skin the desired glow. Have treated 100s of patients with just ghee.

Journey from Milk to Ghee

Cow's milk is madhura (sweet), moderately guru (heavy) and sheetha (cold). It provides nourishment to all the tissues.
\n\nMilk when cuddled turns into curd (yoghurt). When properly formed, curd is predominantly amla (sour), guru (heavy) and ushna (heavy). Curd has two parts. The thick, dadhi (curd) and the watery, masthu (whey). Curd consumption has many restrictions.
\nThis sour, heavy curd is churned to get navaneetha (butter). Butter is fresh and being the thick part of the curd is naturally heavy. It is also sheetha. It is predominantly sweet.
\nThe liquid that remains after removing the heavy, sweet butter is buttermilk. Buttermilk is laghu (light), predominantly kashaya (astringent) and ushna. Buttermilk and whey have the same properties.
\nThe heavy butter also has a tinge of astringent taste as it comes in contact with buttermilk. This is heated and melted to form ghee. Heating or processing converts heavy butter into laghu (light) ghee.
\nSince milk and milk products are part of our daily food, it is important to understand their individual properties and use them judiciously.

Pomegranate

Yesterday evening I got a call from one of my friend. Her son Chez (name changed), after returning from school, developed gripping colicky pain and had a couple of loose motions. Since it was late night and access to medication was tough, I advised a mixture of Hingu (asafetida) and Jeeraka ( cumin) with jaggery. The moment he put this in his mouth, he started to vomit undigested food. Simultaneously he developed loose motions. Neighbors and friends advised her to take Chez to a hospital and get him admitted for saline as he might get dehydrated. Chez was very clear that he didn't want to go inspite of the pain and motions. I asked his mom to just keep him dehydrated as this looks like a case of food poisoning. The body is trying to expel the same and asked her to help the body do it.
He had pain till about 3am and also had about 12 loose motions throughout the night. Early morning I prescribed Mudga yoosha (green gram soup) which helped stop the motions and give him strength.

It could have been easier for me had she had Dadima twak (pomegranate peel) at home. Please don't throw away the peel after consuming the fruit. Dry the peel, powder it and store it. It will definitely come in handy in such conditions.

Inspite of the sleepless night, I have to acknowledge and congratulate Chez's courage and his family's confidence in the science of Ayurveda.

Sweet curd does'nt exist

Most people prefer sweet curd which is non-existant. Milk is sweet and curd is sour. So sweet curd is neither milk nor curd. It's in transition. This is Aama Dadhi and the major reason for blocking all the micro channels (srotas).
